The unit, under the leadership of Mr Naveen Jindal, not only successfully adapted the coal based sponge iron technology but also ventured into new areas by setting up captive power plants which use waste products of the sponge iron making process to generate power. The addition of captive iron ore and coal mines has enhanced the operational efficiencies of the plant , making Jindal Steel & Power Limited a trailblazer in the steel sector. This business model of complete backward and forward integration has now become a benchmark in the steel industry.

Jindal Steel & Power Limited's, nomination as one of the Emerging Companies of the Year 2001 by the Economic Times and as the top 20 investor friendly companies in the year 2004 by Business Today ,which is only a validation of the confidence that the business world has in Mr Jindal's leadership of the company.

Mr Naveen Jindal is a multifaceted personality - an industrialist, a sportsman, a pilot, but most of all a dyed-in-the-wool patriot. He single-handedly took up the cause of restoring in Indians a national pride, choosing the Tricolour as his symbol.

In the rigours of everyday life, patriotism has been a dispensable attribute, but in nation building it is an imperative. No development can be significant without nationalism catalysing every person to contribute to growth at the macro level. Only a man with a vision could have taken upon himself the mammoth task of re-awakening such a pride in the Indian conscience. It took a young student, back from the USA, to think beyond the obvious and rebel with a cause. To Mr Jindal, the freedom to fly the flag meant connecting with other Indians. He could not fathom why such an honour should be denied to those whose flag it really was.

Mr Naveen Jindal showed the makings of a true statesman when he decided to help harbour a feeling of unity and brotherhood as embodied by the Tricolour, and, in a celebration of a free India, build a resurgent, stronger nation.

Today if you can display the national flag at your home or workplace throughout the year, it is because of legal battle fought by Mr Jindal for nine long years to make this right available to every Indian. On 23rd January 2004, in a historic Judgement, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has held that the right to fly the National Flag freely, with respect and dignity is a Fundamental Right of every citizen.

Mr Naveen Jindal is also the Chairman of the Young Leaders Forum and National Executive Committee Member of FICCI. He is also the Vice Chairman, Captive Power Producers of Madhya Pradesh and Former Chairman, Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association. He has been appointed as the Chairman of Sports Committee of FICCI. He is also the Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, Member of Consultative Committee on Ministry of Defence, and Member of Public Accounts Committee.

And it's not all work either. Mr. Naveen Jindal is a National Record holder in skeet shooting. The Indian Shooting Team, under his captaincy, won Silver medal in SAF Games, April 2004, in Pakistan. He has won two silver medals in the 48th National Shooting Championship (Big Bore event), Indore, 2004. Mr Naveen Jindal is in the Indian Shooting Team, he has represented the country at various international shooting competitions. Under his captaincy once again Chhattisgarh Shooting Team in Skeet event won 49th National shooting championship (Shotgun) and retained their title for fifth year in succession.

When he is not shooting, Mr Naveen Jindal is on horseback playing polo. He is an avid polo player with a +2 handicap, who has captained his team - Jindal Steel & Power, to win the Indian Polo Association Championship, consecutively for the year 2003 & 2004, which is the most prestigious polo tournament in India. The team has won numerous other trophies since 1996, under his captaincy including the prestigious Bhopal Pataudi Cup, consecutively for five years (1997-2001), and Maharaja Hari Singh Memorial Cup (14 Goals), consecutively for the year 2003 & 2004.

India Today (Issue- 19th January'2004) carried out a survey to rank pressing issues in order of priority. Readers were asked to rank a series of moments in Indian contemporary history since 1975 which qualified as a "WOW" moment , an event that made Indians proud. Mr. Naveen Jindal was ranked 3rd after Mother Teresa winning the Noble Prize for peace and Kerala achieving 100% literacy.

He not only wishes to be an Olympic champion but also wants to play a big role in contributing to the growth of our nation. To quote him "Its my dream that all Indians fly and respect our greatest national symbol, the Tricolour, and be inspired by it to live by its ideals" To him the ideals of the flag mean to do one's own job well while keeping the country's interest in mind. He feels when a person displays the National flag he rises above his religious, regional and political affiliations and only shows his love for his country and that he is proud to be an Indian. The display of our tricolour by more and more Indians, he feels, will revolutionize the way we think about our country making us a happier, prouder and prosperous nation.

As a Lok Sabha MP, from Kurukshetra, he plans to improve the basic amenities and educational facilities of his constituents, and he also plans to build Kurukshetra as a major spiritual destination. Education, population control and weeding out corruption from Public life are the key political agendas he is keen to implement. More importantly he has with him his clean, efficient Corporate Fundamentals to chart out a developmental plan for his constituency and the larger Nation.He wants to incorporate the best practices of business management in politics, he strongly feels it's all about managing resources, managing people and wiping out corruption.
